BMW unveils electric version of classic Mini

Mini has unveiled a one-off electric version of the its classic icon. The Oxfordshire-based firm took the wraps off the special project at the New York motor show.

Fitted with 30 lithium-iron phosphate batteries, the zero-emissions historic car has a range of 65 miles and a top speed of 75mph.

A Mini spokesman said, ‘The electric classic remains true to the brand, both in terms of its visual appearance and driving characteristics.

‘The spontaneous power of its electric motor provides a new dimension to the unmistakable go-kart feeling that helped propel the British small car in its original form to worldwide popularity.’

Finished in red with a white roof, the car carries the yellow Mini Electric logo in the brand emblem and on its hub caps.
