Keeping a Boxster covered in bad weather?

I recently bought a 13 year old Porsche Boxster S and the paintwork is in very good condition. It is stored outside overnight and in the day time (at the station weekdays).

I do have two old but good quality Hamilton covers which fit. Should I be using these overnight all the time, when heavy rain or snow is forecast, or all the time in the winter?

Only when poor conditions are forecast and before the stuff begins to fall. Never cover a wet car.

Could you recommend an outdoor cover for my 20-year-old Mazda MX 5? I expect the cover to remain on a week or more throughout the winter.
I have an immaculate 2004 Toyota Celica TS which will have to live outside as further classic cars have used my garage space. This car is for keeps and is used about 2500 miles a year for reasonable runs....
If you keep an older, more rust prone car outside, does a cover really work? Is it a replacement for a garage?
